The second Annual Cohasset Day is right around the corner — Saturday, Sept. 12th (rain date Sept. 13th). Bring your neighbors, friends, family and most importantly your appetite! As part of this celebration of small town living there will be big tastings as part of the “Fine Food Galore”— a gathering of more than 22 restaurants and food shops who will all be serving their fare up and down South Main Street, including Cohasset’s newest establishments Jailhouse Rocks; 5 South Main; Cohasset Confectionary; and JJ’s Junction. Cohasset Day activities are free and open to residents and non-residents, however, there is a cost for attending Fine Food Galore. This celebration of food will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Village.
“Cohasset Day is a crowd of familiar faces who understand the importance of keeping it local in order to sustain our community. Everyone, young and old, is out sampling food, shopping, enjoying the live music and having a lot of fun. They are the same people who make it possible for all of us who own a local business to thrive and be successful in such a small town. Their support and patronage is appreciated by all of us,” says Brian Houlihan, Coordinator of Fine Food Galore and Chef/Owner, along with wife Tristen, of Bia Bistro. Brian promised that Bia would be offering something “delicious” on Sept. 12.
Cohasset Day is free and open to residents and non-residents alike, however the most delicious part of the day, the Fine Foods Galore event within the event, does have a price of admission. Cost for Advance tickets are $20 for Family; $10 for individuals. Event day tickets are $25 for Family; $15 for Individuals. Tickets go on sale this weekend and everyone is encouraged to buy them in advance in order to save money and time on Cohasset Day.
Fine Food Galore tickets can be purchased at Darilynn’s Gifts, French Memories and Stop & Shop (Cohasset only) up through Friday, Sept. 11. New this year is the wristband that will be given to all Fine Food Galore attendees at the admission/ticket table on event day. The wristband must be shown to each food merchant before being served. The new wristbands are just one improvement that the Cohasset Day Committee has been working on behind the scenes in order to make this second Annual Event every bit as successful as the inaugural one of last year. Proceeds from Fine Food Galore will benefit The Council on Elder Affairs, Cohasset Food Pantry, and the American Legion George H. Mealy Post 118.
Hunger pangs will be satisfied with things like pizza from Simply Fresh and 3A Pizza and Grille; mini-croissants, cookies and tarts from French Memories; Chowder from Mullaney’s; Del’s Lemonade; candy from Jailhouse Rocks; and braised short ribs from Scarlet Oak Tavern. This is just a sampling of the mouthwatering food and beverages that will be offered that day.
The full list of culinary treats will include samplings from Bia, French Memories, Red Lion, All the Best, Starbuck’s, Stop & Shop, Shaws, Simply Fresh, Atlantic Bagel, Dunkin Donuts, 3A Pizza and Grille, Mullaney’s Seafood, Papa Gino’s, Victoria’s, JJ’s and JJ’s Junction, Cohasset Lobster Pound, Tedeschi’s, Del’s Lemonade, 5 South Main, Cohasset Confectionary Company, Jailhouse Rocks, , Scarlet Oak Tavern, and Tosca Restaurant
Cohasset Day is designed to bring families to the town common for some old fashioned fun. In addition to the parade, the day includes a fashion show by Ports; the second Cohasset Classic Car Concours, music all afternoon by Rusty Skippers, J Place’s “Drift Away” and featuring the Jackson Weatherbee Band, a Kids Duathlon and Games on the Common, special Farmer’s Market, South Shore Center Art exhibit and Historical Society Open House at John Wilson House and Maritime Museum.
Visit www.cohassetday.org and watch the Mariner for more information. Most importantly, take out your calendar right now and block out “Cohasset Day” on Saturday, Sept. 12. Make plans to enjoy this new Cohasset tradition that encourages all of us to enjoy music, food, fun and shopping all within the beautiful boundaries of our seaside town.
