Mark Your Calendar for 2nd Annual Cohasset Day
September 12, 2009
Rain date Sunday, September 13th

Every day is Cohasset Day if you live or work in this beautiful coastal town--yet September 12th is officially the 2nd Annual “Cohasset Day” and it promises to be a great one. Mark your calendar for a family day of fun, shopping, eating, parade, music and dancing in the streets.

A highlight of the day is a parade down Main Street and its open to all local organizations who would like to adorn their uniforms or their 02025 pride and march together for the sheer fun and camaraderie of it. If your Boy Scout or Girl Scout Troop, sports team or local organization would like to be part of this 2nd annual parade please contact Cohasset Day Coordinator, Peter Brown at pbrown@campanelli.com

It’s only fitting that in these dog days of summer that a highlight of the parade will be the Decorated Dog Parade coordinated by the Scituate Animal Shelter. It means exactly what it sounds like—have the kids make a costume for man’s (and women’s) best friend and take a stroll with Cohasset’s four legged residents. Costumes are optional. All dogs are welcome to participate in their birthday suit. If you’re interested in the dog parade contact Nancy Story at storynanciej@yahoo.com .

If you prefer to ride instead of walking the dog, then join in the Decorated Bicycle Parade. Each participant is encouraged to decorate their bike and ride alongside family and friends. For more information about this contact Beverly Bielewicz at beverly@paperscapes.biz.

Each of these events within the parade requires a little creativity and a big desire for fun.

Cohasset Day is designed to bring families to the town common for some old fashioned fun. In addition to the parade, the day includes a fashion show, the 2nd Cohasset Classic Car Concours, music all afternoon by Rusty Skippers, J Place’s “Drift Away” and featuring the Jackson Weatherbee Band, a Kids Duathlon and Games on the Common, special Farmer’s Market, South Shore Center Art exhibit; historical society Open Houses.

In addition to local businesses selling their wares, families can feed their appetites by purchasing tickets for “Fine Foods Galore, “ a sampling from more than 22 restaurants and local vendors. The food sampling has a cost of $10 for individuals; $20 for families (in advance); and $15 for individuals ;( $25 for families (on event day). All other events are free.

A full calendar of the day’s activities and details about where to buy advance food tickets will be included in upcoming Mariner articles. For now, consider decorating your dog or your bike and then come see why we all need to celebrate Cohasset, support our local businesses and enjoy what promises to be a wonderful September celebration.
